Racing pocket bikes, also known as Mini GP racing or Minimoto racing, is a type of auto racing using smaller versions of full size racing motorbikes, also known as pocket bikes. Pocket bike races usually use kart tracks. It’s a sport that is very popular in Europe and Japan, and is increasing in popularity in many other countries, in particular in the US.

In general a pocket bike is roughly a fourth a regular motorbikes size, and has an engine of about 45cc producing form 3 to 15hp, which varies with the actual model. There is no suspension on a pocket bike but they rely instead on any bumps being absorbed by the tires. Most models weigh around fifty pounds. The entry-level models often output around 3 to 4 hp, however more expensive models run with much more power. The best pocket bikes for racing are designed with an excellent power-to-weight ratio. Accelerations and speed are often increased by modifying the basic pocket bike. In spite of their small size, both children and adults can achieve speeds of 60 mph when raced in good conditions.

Because they are small pocket bikes are easy to transport, and they do not cost a lot which adds to their attractiveness for both children and adults. The lowest cost pocket bikes imported from China sell for approximately $200 for a basic model, while you could pay as much as as $4000 for a top of the line Italian bike. Children from the age of about six or seven can become skilled at the basics about motorcycle racing and adults are able to feel all the thrills of bike racing but not the risks involved in the usual full size motorcycle racing.
